Goal #19 - Eat a Malasada (or two or three...)

Goal #19 on my list of things to do while I'm 25 is complete! I planned to eat a malasada (for those of you who do not know, a malasada is the most delicious, sugar coated, fried, Portuguese donut you can imagine) and where better to find one than Hawaii. If I didn't eat one in Hawaii I was going to have to try to make one myself and that probably wouldn't have gone so well! Justin's parents live on the windward side of Oahu now and I was concerned that I would probably never be in the same vicinity as Leonard's Bakery. However, it turns out that there are several Leonard's Bakery trucks set up around the island and one happened to be just down the street from our house. We had to make a couple stops during our trip :)

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

This was the first year that I haven't been able to make it back to MN for the holidays to see my family. Luckily I had a trip to Hawaii (to see Justin's family) to soften the blow. The picture below best describes the weather we had all week...rainy. Our stay at Hanauma bay wasn't too long. We saw the majority of our aquatic wildlife at the Waikiki Aquarium this time around.

Christmas Day
Even when it was sunny we still couldn't go swimming. Winters in Hawaii bring big waves on the north shore!! They have a lot of really big surf competitions during the winter and I was hoping to see one. We were in luck and saw a little bit of a surfing competition but it was just local.

Even though we didn't have a lot of sunshine it was a great trip. I personally had a lot of gecko catching time. It's one of my favorite activities in Hawaii. If you're planning a trip and need a few tips...I have plenty. We also had lots of family bonding time over games and eating. Mmmm my favorites were, meat jun, malasadas, bubbies mochi ice cream, aoki shave ice, shrimp, lumpia, katsu chicken, haupia cake, and yellow curry.  We took a lot of fun family photos that I'll have to see if I can get up here. But until then, happy new year!

Happy New Year!
