Get Better Smokie

Poor little Smokie has been having a tough time lately. Two weeks ago he suffered some internal bleeding (hence the bandages). This week he lost use of his legs. Very sad. He couldn't stand without falling over and he had to be carried everywhere.
Smokie Wednesday:
Almost no use of his legs. Unable to stand up on his own.
The vet said it is probably neurological and there aren't too many options for him and she didn't sound optimistic about his condition. She said if he wasn't better by Saturday we should think about putting him to sleep. We started him on prednisone to see if there would be any improvement but our hopes weren't high. That night we woke up to crying and Smokie standing in the middle of our floor peeing. Clean-up. Back to sleep. More crying. More peeing on the carpet. However, at this point I was too overjoyed that he was STANDING and WALKING to care that he was peeing all over our new carpet!  Justin was probably a little confused why I was so smiley cleaning up dog pee after being woken from a deep slumber (I am NOT good at waking up). Smokie has been walking all day today!! He does occasionally fall over, but he can get himself back up again. I don't know if this is just a temporary fix but it sure is nice to see him walking again. Hopefully it bought him at least a few more weeks if not months (or years). Just last week I took his being able to walk for granted. Now it is such a beautiful thing to see! (Yes, I love my dog waaaay too much if you didn't already know)

  1. Hooray for Smokie (or I should say hooray for the veterinarian)!

Isn't modern medicine fantastic, even if this fix winds up being just temporary :(
